Like its predecessor, the EOS-1D Mark IV records images with a 3:2 aspect ratio and supports both CR2.RAW and JPEG still capture. There are four image sizes to choose from: 4896 x 3264, 4320 x 2880, 3552 x 2368 and 2448 x 1632 pixels. The S-RAW file originally introduced with the EOS-1D Mark III is provided and a new mRAW file format is added

Image-wise, the Canon 5D Mark IV sensor is awesome, and you will not have any problems producing 99% of your work on it. The 1D X Mark III released in 2020, four years after the 5D Mark IV
The 1D IV has a few more pixels and crop factor, and once you factor this in with post-processing you can get image noise as good as the D3. The low iso shots feel a little bit sharper on the 1D IV maybe. But the D3 has less problematic autofocus, and is cheaper.
When the camera canβt immediately lock focus, take your finger off the shutter (or AF button), compose so your autofocus point is back on top of the bird, and then try to focus again. You may need to repeat that process a few times for tricky subjects, but this works a million times better than the focus search method.
So, naturally I wondered if the 7D Mark II would be a wise upgrade to the 1D Mark IV. To help make the decision, I rented the 7D Mark II over the Thanksgiving holiday, to do some hands-on testing. Having sent it back, and having yet to review the images on my monitor, I am still in the decision making process.
