There's pages for this on fansites like gw2efficiency. Might be worth to keep a few on hand, though; they can't exactly be farmed.

Best way was to stock up tons of materials for boxes, and when festival comes you sell them at higher price on TP. Not at all, but since the OP asked for ways to earn gold, I mentioned Fractals as just another option. Also, you can run T1 Fractals without investing in ascended gear, then slow and steady, you will be able to gear up to climb to T2 and further.

Farming the more profitable maps (dragonfall, drizzlewood) and exchanging both the gold you make for t6 and the volatile magic for the shipments will fast track your t6 gathering. Upgrade the t5 you get into t6 as well using the mystic forge. 14.
